Autism and Baseball, A Mother’s Perspective

My son Jake is three years old, playing baseball with his YMCA team. Well, he’s not really playing with his team. He is throwing a baseball with his Dad on the sideline. All the other kids gather around the coach. The kids listen to directions, line up where they are supposed to be, and get ready to hit the ball off a Tee. The coach calls out, “Jake, come on over and line up to hit the ball!” Jake glances over, shakes his head no, and throws the ball to his Dad.
